inquiryHub® Polar Ice Kit

inquiryHub® Polar Ice Kit

"

inquiryHub® is a research-practice partnership that designs, tests, and implements tools and strategies that support teachers in promoting equity and justice in STEM education. Part of a full-year high school chemistry curriculum, inquiryHub® Polar Ice is open access and available through Google Drive™. This NGSS-aligned unit is phenomenon-based and takes a storyline approach to support students engaging in 3-dimensional learning.

In this unit, students investigate the phenomenon of rising sea levels and warming oceans to figure out that thermodynamic energy in a system disperses. In the case of the melting Antarctic glaciers, students figure out that the temperatures of water and its behavior with more and less energy can help predict changes in the Earth's ocean systems. The unit concludes by investigating the most important mitigation strategies for polar ice melt. Students must engage with the constraints of modern life as they argue for a plan that will best fit the scientific evidence of sea level rise.

Kit includes sufficient materials for 30 students working in groups of 4 (or less). Note: To download this 3-dimensional curriculum for FREE, click here.
